Construction on Cambodia’s side of a highway that will link Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh has begun.
The toll road will eventually go as far as Bavet on the Cambodian side and will reportedly cost $1.6 billion USD, funded and built by China Road and Bridge, a subsidiary of China Communications. In return, China Road and Bridge will enjoy a 50 year concession according to a report by Global Construction Review.
The Vietnamese government will in turn continue the highway from Moc Ba to the eventual destination of Ho Chi Minh. From Phnom Penh to Bavet, the highway will consist of 138 km of 4 lanes, following the current National Road 1 which is only two lanes.
Undoubtedly real estate from Phnom Penh to Bavet along the highway will continue to increase in value during the 4 years it is expected to take to complete the project.
