Kampot, Cambodia is generally a 2.5+ hour trip down National Road 41 (NR41) from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There is the option to take a train on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, which will take you 4.5 hours. Since a bus will take you 4 hours, the train ride feels like the better adventure.
Another way of traveling from Phnom Penh to Kampot is by minivan. Much more comfortable than a bus in our opinion, a minivan will cost a bit more but will be worth it. Shop for tickets from Phnom Penh to Kampot and vice versa here.
When in Kampot, be sure to visit the nearby southern coastal town of Kep (Krong Kaeb). Don’t miss a chance to dine on pepper crab, which is popular and uniquely infuses the region’s famous Kampot peppercorns.
